Separating Thumbnails from the Database
« on: 2016-01-13 15:25:21 »
Can an existing database be reconstructed with thumbnails as separate files?

Does anyone have experience with using the program in this manner.  Are their limitations on performance or options or anything else.

Separating Thumbnails from the Database

This ability is available in TP10.  Open TP10, then click menu Database | New ... to get dialogue box to create a new database.  Select option "Store thumbnails in files", then create your database.

This is just my opinion, but I think this is not a good way to go especially if you have a lot of image files.  It can lead to bad directory fragmentation (not so much of a problem on an SSD) and unless Cerious has addressed this issue, maintenance problems. When an image is deleted from within TP10, the thumbnail image file remains.  Removing orphans removes the rows from the database, but not the corresponding thumbnail image files.

I see absolutely no reason to do this with the availability of the SQlite database which lifts the dreaded 2GB database size limit.

Cheers,
Gary
