I often use an external File Rename program in order to batch replace parts of filenames, but this is problematic if TP is not running; annotation and keywords can be lost.

TP has the option in Preferences to watch external folder/file changes to prevent that loss, but that only works if TP is running. TP either needs a more robust filenamer of its own, or a persistent module that's loaded at system startup to watch for external file/folder changes all the time, even if TP itself is not running.

I'm having the same problem with a Google Pixel XL phone. Windows Explorer shows the phone fine. I could not drag & drop a JPG image onto TP. I manually set TP as the default App for JPG files through the Windows Explorer JPG image properties dialog. (Windows 10 Settings would not even show TP as an App to permit this change).

While I still couldn't drag & drop onto TP, I could double click a JPG image on my phone using Windows Explorer to open it in the TP Viewer.

But when I clicked on "Go To Folder" from the TP Viewer, this is where it took me in the TP folder tree:
C:\Users\yecal\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\INetCache\IE\37IYBT05

TP still did not see or register my phone properly.

I should have said, navigate to C:\Windows\Fonts with "Windows root folder" unchecked.  It should still be visible. This was part of the the fix.

I use Windows 7, 64-bit.  I reported the problem of an empty Fonts folder in an earlier version of ThumbsPlus.  They told me about the "Include Windows root folder," but also fixed the problem so fonts should display in the special Fonts folder even if the Windows folder is hidden.  Maybe the fix doesn't work with Windows XP.

Are you running the latest build (3928) of ThumbsPlus 9?

Including "Windows root folder" should allow you to see all subfolders of "C:\Windows." Try navigating there to see if files in C:\Windows\Fonts are visible.

This only works if I have also checked

Options | Preferences | Disks & Folders | Show Windows root folder

under the "Include the following special folders" section at the bottom.

Otherwise, the system Fonts folder will still display by filename.

Fonts in the system Font folder display according to their filename rather than their internal name and are sorted accordingly. If I view fonts stored elsewhere, they display by their internal name and are sorted more logically. Sorting by filename has its uses, but the font's internal name is more useful when searching for a named font, which is the way other programs display them. To view all of my fonts sorted by font name, I have to copy them all to another folder.

Am I overlooking something, or can you give us more control over how fonts are labeled--by filename or internal name?
