If you wish, you can already load (not save) .webp images using the Photoshop plug-in from Fnordware/Brendan Bolles, https://github.com/fnordware/AdobeWebM.

Direct download link (valid as on Jan 17, 2016): http://www.fnordware.com/downloads/WebP_v0.5b9_win.zip

Save the 32-bit webp.8bi file to a folder of your choice (e.g. the TP10 'plugins' subfolder). Then launch ThumbsPlus and make a filetype definition for .webp files like this:

Some sample .webp images for testing are available from https://developers.google.com/speed/webp/gallery

Thanks Daan. I was aware of that but I admit I should have detailed my request more clearly:

FULL webp support please!

I'm not sure exactly how long webp has been around, but it's been a while; certainly long enough for ThumbsPlus to start taking it ceriously (!)

Cheers,
Jay

No problem, maybe it will be of use to someone else.

Fair enough, but what use is it really? It doesn't support greater bitdepth than 8b/channel (which I think is unforgivable for a new general purpose graphics format) and the savings compared to JPG are only 30% or so. The imaging industry deperately needs a proper 48b JPEG replacement and this isn't it.

I'm sure there are a whole bunch of formats out there (with ThumbsPlus support) that are of little use to some people, but are just right for whatever purpose to another group of people.

I'm not going to argue the validity of any format's existence, rather the fact that an all purpose graphics database/editor should ideally support as many formats as possible.

webp supports 24 bits per channel plus an 8 bit alpha channel, more than sufficient for its purpose as a web image container; hence the name.
