Tried two. Both give same result. New result is download fails from both links. (it's two files, in one place so this is not the problem)

ThumbsPlus v10 Questions / Can't run thmpls10sp2.exe
« on: 2018-03-07 04:40:18 »
thmpls10sp2.exe is zero byte file. It's not gonna execute.

thmpls10sp2.exe.part exists, but what do I do with this?

System is Win7 64bit. Thumbsplus10sp1 is already installed.

WTF am I supposed to do?

Re: Upgrading installation of SQLite.

Tell us where files exist, and where to make the entries. Provide notes of everything that must be changed IN ONE PLACE! Make it complete. I don't want to work that hard, or take the risk of getting something wrong.

Write a how to, and ask that it be put on Cerious' website where it can easily be found.

Thanks.

Hmmm. I'm sure I renamed that to Thumbs9.config.old, then restored it after deleting the new config file placed by reinstalling the program.

I don't see a Thumbs9v.config file in the folder.

I have to reinstall again. I'm upping from build 3938 to build 3943. I certainly hope this works. Both rebuilding my customized workspace and deleting junk entries from the keywords list is very painful and time consuming.

Also, still having problems with loading large files to screen. My monitor is 1080p. Files that are this dimension do not open correctly for editing. I have to press F5 twice to make them viewable, because they are surrounded by a window border that really doesn't exists (it's not functioning). My video card is a Geforce 650 ti with 1 GB of memory on it, and I have the latest drivers for it from nVidia's website.

Thanks for your help.

You can add new bars across the top of the screen and customize them by adding/rearranging icons and menu items onto them. Where are these stored? What file? What folder is the file in?

I've changed the .config file to .config.old, and the .ini file to .ini.old before installing a new release, then removing the new .config and .ini files, and renaming .config.old back to .config and renaming the .ini.old to .ini. This restores most everything (all settings), but it does not restore the working space that I've customized.

Please. What file contains your working space customizations? And what folder can it found in?

Also, I open an existing database that I have (I have two). When I open them, my old keywords are in it, but the keywords have new entries that were already deleted once. How can I prevent the database from populating itself with the default keywords? I don't want them, and it's tedious and a lengthy process to remove the unwanted keywords. How can I prevent these 'default' keywords from populating my list of keywords?

I have been using build 3938. I've been told to upgrade to build 3943. I don't really want to do this unless I can retain my working space customizations and retain my keywords without getting them cluttered with keywords that I don't use!

What file is my working space customizations in, so that I can back it it up and restore it? And how do I prevent my keywords in a database file from being corrupted with new, default, entries?

Thanks in advance.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / 6 months later, same problem
« on: 2014-11-18 05:51:43 »
WHEN will TP be able to show a 1920x1080 image on a monitor whose resolution is 1920x1080?

I Keep getting this same problem, build after build. I'm now using build 3938.

WHEN will I get this feature fixed? WHEN!

I am growing very weary of this problem.

You also have broken links on your site. Are you people serious or just cerious (the dog star)?

7
My customiazed menu bar is what I'm referring to.

It's done. I've installed build 3938 and done the customization by hand. Unfortunately though, I lost two databases that are not default names. These were removed. I should have backed them up, but I beleived that these would not be altered. I did back up and replaced thumbs9.ini and thumbs9.config, and these were successful.

All is well. Thumbs9 seems to run faster now, thank you.

However I still have a problem that I've reported before. Any image that has a greater than 3:2 ration (h:v) where the horizontal is larger, the image will not display full screen without having a false window around it. This causes problems in viewing. The image is slightly shrunk in size, causing image sharpening problems. However, when I run a slide show, I have no error and the display is fine. This problem cannot be my graphics card driver. Images from any viewer display correctly. There is something wrong with Thumbs9, and I believe that the window is created first, then an attempt is made to discard it when your settings for editing a single image are

Full Screen
Shrink to fit
Centered

This problem is getting to be a royal pain!

My monitor is 1080p (1920x1080). Images that are 3:2 any size, display fine. Images that are 3.2:2 or larger, have this false frame around them. The fame shows the close button in the upper right corner, but that close button does not work and the image's sharpening is distorted. What is wrong?

8
Unfortunately, that's not the case. One would think that theumbs9.cnfg would hold your custom workspace data, but it does not. It only contains what's in the Options menu.

Anybody else know?

9
What file has my custom interface settings? I know it's not in thumbs9.cfg or thumbs9.ini. This has been tried before and I still had to manually set up my custom workspace. What is the name of this file, and where is it located (which subfolder)?

Thanks.

Thanks, but that no longer works for me due to 'upgrading' to Windows 7. I used to be able to plug my camera in using an application with WinXP, but Microsoft's Win 7 shows no remorse for not working, and Canon has no application for Win7 to allow you to do this. So I gotta do it the old fashioned (hard) way.

I have a card reader. I have not tried to copy a card's contents using Thumbsplus, but I'm confident it will work. If not, I still have a work-around.

Thanks for the info. Say no to Microsoft for making most of my software and games obsolete!

11
Thanks. Fortuantely these card readers are inexpensive. I've ordered one from Newegg and it was under $20 with the shipping. I should have the reader in a couple of days.

Thanks for your timely reply.

12
How does one do this? My old camera had a utility to import photos but it doesn't work with Windows 7. What do I need to make TP 9 use a memory card reader? Do I need to get twain software to go with the reader? The specs on the reader say nothing about twain software.

Windows' Photo gallery will most likely read the card reader, but I'd rather do this from within Thumbsplus. Please tell me what I need.

Thanks.

Settings for viewing/editing a single file: Centered, Full screen, Shrink to fit.

I tired to run TP7Sp2. It didn't want to work and I didn't know how Windows 7 works. I removed it and bought TP9 build 2932.

At first, I ran TP9 build 2932.  When I opened a file for editing, a bounding box surrounds the image IF the horizontal resolution is greater than or equal to my screen horizontal resolution AND the vertical dimension is greater than or equal to 2:3 aspect ratio.

I downloaded and installed TP9 SP1v3. Before doing so, I uninstalled my TP build 3932, and renamed my config file and ini file adding 'old' as the extension to both.

TP9 SP1v3 exhibits the same problem. I used the new config file and new ini file (this restored my missing status bar), but the problem still exists. I have rebuilt my settings thus creating a new ini file. I used the new 'Thumbs' database. The problem still exists.

All three programs, TP7sp2, TP9 build 3923, and TP9sp1v3 exhibit this problem.

----------------------------------------
Today I discovered a work around. If I get this partial window around a file that is supposed to be open FULL SCREEN and CENTERED, I can press the F5 key to complete the frame, then press F5 again and the image displays correctly -- Full screen, centered, shrunk to fit. It appears to be a timing problem.
-----------------------------------------

HAVE YOU GOT A FIX FOR THIS?  I have spent HOURS on this problem. I don't want to waste any more time on this!

What can I do to make this frame go away? I DON'T want to uninstall and reinstall the progam again!

---------------------------------------
System specs

MSI Mainboard 970A-G46
2 sticks of 2 GB (4 GB total) Corsair XM3 TWGX4g1333C9a G, no overclocking
AMD Athlon II 455 X3 CPU, no overclocking
EVGA Geforce 8600 GTS w 256MB DDR 3
NEC Multisycn LCD 1700V with drivers
Windows 7 Pro, 32 bit

My screen resolution is 1280x1024. I have also tried 1280x960 (true 4:3)

All drivers are up to date. This rig is only 3 months old.

No thanks. I don't want to install another viewer. That will not solve the problem with Thumbsplus.

I had TP 7 on an XP rig, and it worked beautifully. Narry a hiccup, and no problems.

I have analyzed this to death. It is not a memory allocation problem. Period. It is a software problem. It is not my responsibility eliminate the possibility that it is a software problem. I'm not getting paid to troubleshoot software.

I have already spent 1-2 hours with build 2932, then another 1-2 hours with SP1v3 with this.

Try this: Take any image and make a dummy out of it. Make it match your monitor's resolution, even if you have to distort it. Then try to view it. See if you don't get that bounding box.

Set your viewing for files to Centered and Reduce to fit. Let me know what you see.

The statues bar is back. I didn't do what you said. I did this.

   1. close ThumbsPlus
   2. use file manager to open folder where your configuration files are located
   3. rename "Thumbs9.config" to "Thumbs9.config.mine"
   4. rename "Thumbs9.ini" to "Thumbs9.ini.mine"
   5. start ThumbsPlus - note all of your settings will be gone but hopefully you will see the status bar.  if so, we know the issue is in your config files.

The status bar was back. So I opened Thumbs9.ini and Thumbs9.ini.mine side by side and compared them. The things lacking in Thumbs9.config were settings.

I tried to do the same with the two config files, but it was impossible to see them side by side. So I gave up on that.

So, I fired up Thumbs 9, and rebuilt my settings and menu bar. That's all okay now.

However, landscape oriented files that exceed my monitor's horizontal resolution, and files that match the screen horiz resolution and the vertical res is greater than 2:3 aspect STILL produce that bounding box.  And I don't think its a memory issue, because if the orientation of the file is Portrait, they display correctly -- no bounding box. That damn bounding box is there only if the file is Landscape oriented.

A file that is 1280 horizontally, at the 2:3 aspect ratio the vertical resolution comes to 853.33. Files that are 1280 x 853 produce this bounding box. Files that are 1280 x 851 do not display the bounding box.

Images out of my camera are 1600 x 1024.  1024/1600 = .6400, which is less than 2:3 aspect ratio. These display the bounding box when fitted to screen.

Do the same calculation for images that are 1280 x 851.  851/1280 = .6648.  These display correctly, and the filesize is larger (bmps or jpgs, given that the jpgs have the same compression ratio).

So, now I have the status bar back, but I still get that damn bounding box. This is getting old! It has nothing to do with file size. A BMP turned into a PSD with many layers still works in landscape mode IF the image's dimensions are 1280 x 851 (This is not 3:2 aspect), but that bounding box comes up again when the file is 3:2 aspect with dimensions of 1280 x 853.

What next?
