Have you tried a full uninstall followed by a full install?

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / v9 newbe questions.

> 1. With v7 each directory that had a subdirectory had a + sign in the location window. Now with v9 only the directory I happen to be sitting in shows the + sign.

You're probalby viewing a network drive.  Network folders (eg on a NAS drive) don't show whether they are expandable because pre-reading the whole tree might take ages.

> To navigate to a different subdirectory elsewhere on the drive I have to first select the parent directory, kill TP9, and restart it.

That's just weird. But instead of restarting TP9, try pressing Ctrl-F5 (refresh tree) if this happens again.

> 2. Each parent directory has in it all thumbnails for all subdirectories under it.  This causes TP9 to take forever to start. Clearly I do not want this, I want the thumbnails to only be displayed in the directory or subdirectory I choose.

Well, you shouldn't have turned that option on then :-)

To turn it back off, Go to Options | Preferences | Thumbnail View and unmark "always show child folders".

If you prefer version 7, you can simply re-install it (in a different folder than v9). There's no need to remove either version if you also want to use the other.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Nikon raw files

Sounds like a white balance problem. See Options | Digicam or Options | DCRaw (depending on which you use to load NEF files) to find the relevant setting. The Digicam settings may also offer an option of using Nikon libraries to read the raw files.

I'm using build 3928 and below 'external program' I have these entries:

    [*]GhostScript PS/EPS/PDF
    [*]Digicam plug-in
    [*]DCRaw plug-in
    [/list]

They allow you to set options for each of these plug-ins.

    Paul,

Sorry for the late reply. I'd recommend this: http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Lumia 1020 dng

    > I'm using T+9 v. 3928 with latest digicam. My Lumia 1020 now allows raw dng photo output much to my relief. However, my favorite (T+ since c. 1990) browser's thumbnail maker doesn't read them properly, like missing blue-yellow output, reading only magenta-green. Double clicking on thumb, however, will show proper individual image in the display.

See the General tab of either Options | Digicam or Options | DCRaw. To make thumbnails, the plugin that loads DNG files can either use the actual raw data or the preview JPG that's embedded in the DNG. It sounds like it's doing the latter. You can change that behavior through the options screen.

See the DNG filetype definitions (rightclick on a DNG file, pick Configure File Type) to see which of these plugins is being used.

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Metadata

    > I don't find this menu in TP9 and I don't know if TP9 uses the same plugins as TP7.

It does and the plug-in options are at the bottom under Options in the menu (if the plugins are installed).

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Metadata

You must have Digicam installed in order to load NEF files and their metadata.

When you right-click on a NEF file and pick "Configure file type",  the value for Load Using should be Cerious Plug-in, with to its right either plug_digicam.tpp or plug_digiraw.tpp (these represent two different loading methods, you can try both. Metadata is read when the thumbnail is made. To re-create a thumbnail after you have changed the loading method, select it and press Shift-Del to remove the existing thumbnail record, then press F3 to have it re-made).

Great find! This is what i'd try too.

Yes, he needs the 32-bit version, and I think it would be a good idea to reboot prior to running the installer.

    > I suppose I need to install MySQL,

No. Your database is a regular Access-type database and the SQL error messages that you see have nothing to do with MySQL.

Have you tried to install and run TP with full Administrator rights?

If that doesn't help, I think something in Windows' ODBC database system is broken on your system. Unfortunately I don't know how to diagnose and fix that on a 64-bit Windows 8.1 system. One thing that used to fix it is doing a full (non-custom) installation of MS Office if you happen to have that.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Automatic Slideshow
    « on: 2014-02-04 12:37:28 »
Are you using v7 or earlier? I don't think tpcmd works with v8 and newer.

Tpcmd.exe probably has to reside in the folder where ThumbsPlus itself is installed, and may have to be executed from that same folder. Also, I'd use a short folder name for the folder that holds the images, eg. C:\SLIDES.

Alternatively, you could use Image | Build Slideshow in v7 to make a self-contained slideshow in .exe format that might suit your purposes.

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Back from v9/8.1 to v.7?

    > Currently, I'm on my way using MS-Access to generate a plain textfile with all information (keywords, galleries, annotations) I need. This textfile I will use to add to the metadata. (Current plan is probably using exiftool).

Or: Image | Batch Edit Metadata to add the keywords and annotations to the files' metadata? You could use keywords to add the names of galleries that images belong to (i.e. go to a gallery and add an appropriate keyword to all images in it). Then thumbnail in v7, at the same time copying keywords and annotations to the database. Then select all images that have a specific 'gallery'-keyword and create a gallery for them.

General Discussion / migrate database from 1 pc to another
    « on: 2014-01-29 09:35:10 »
Well, it looks like "Rogers laptop C Drive" was the volume label of drive C: in the old laptop. You could open Explorer on the new laptop (after exiting TP7 there), right-click on drive C: and pick Properties from the bottom of the context menu that appears, then change its name to "Rogers laptop C Drive" (without the quotes) too. Then launch TP7 to see if that did the trick.

According to TP7's documentation it also uses the drive serial number to match fixed drives, but I don't think that's correct. And where the computer name is concerned, I think that's used only for images that were thumbnailed through a network. So, I'm hopeful that just editing the volume label will solve this problem for you.

The volume label(s) of the drive(s) on which your images reside must be the same as on the previous laptop too (change these from outside of ThumbsPlus, without TP running).

If that doesn't solve it, the computer name could still be a problem. You could try changing it on the new laptop, but if you prefer not to have two identically named computers, you could open the database in a database editor like MDB Viewer Plus (freeware from http://www.alexnolan.net/software/mdb_viewer_plus.htm) and change the relevant value to that of the new laptop. As always, keep a backup of your database.
