ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Cannot Install SP2
« on: 2015-02-17 13:09:12 »
Hi Greg,
Thanks for the information and the link from Microsoft; it might be useful elsewhere later on.

With regard to the quote...
"If the installer for the latest version is unable to uninstall the prior version, and if you cannot uninstall it from Control Panel, then the Windows Installer database is missing the original installer. This is usually caused by some type of registry editor or clean up type program."

I was able to manually uninstall build 3938 from the Control Panel. I then installed Build 3945. An update (Build 3946) was posted later on, which I was able to uninstall/install normally through the TP installer.

Now, I do use a program called CCleaner, which I primarily used to remove cookies and other remnant crap on the system. As for Registry Edits, I specifically target broken links. As such, I don't believe my actions were the cause.

Regards,
Bryan

Thanks Gary.

I did as you suggested, and the new version installed.
I can only presume that the issue with the Build 3495 is with the installer program.

Gary,
Thanks for the reply.
I am quite familiar with the RegEdit.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Cannot Install SP2

Hello everyone,

I currently use SP1 Build 3938. Responding to the Cerious notification, I decided to install the new version SP2 Build 3945. But sadly, the installation failed.

The attached images show the messages in the resulting dialog boxes.

My system
OS:    Windows 7 Pro 64-bit
RAM:   16 GB
CPU:   Intel i5-2500K
GPU:   Geforce GTX 570

Can anyone advise/explain my predicament?
Thanks for the reply,
Bryan

I forgot to mention that I had used the ANSI version of the driver, and not the UNICODE one.

Hello all,

I submitted this information with the thought that it might be useful to someone else.

I had installed TP9 and the MySQL ODBC driver (v5.2.5)(32-bit) on a new build (Win7 64-bit).
All seemed well until I tried to connect to my MySQL database. Immediately, TP9 crashed, displaying a message...

A fatal exception had occurred in ThumbsPlus or a Windows component...
Exception code: C0000005
at address: will be different for everyone

I knew the problem wasn't caused by TP9.
As a result, I deleted the data sources and uninstalled the ODBC (v5.2.5) driver.
I instead installed the previous ODBC driver (v5.1.10)(32-bit); that driver was installed in my laptop, accessing the same DB without problems.
I then recreated the data sources and tried to connect to the database again.

This time it worked, just as it had done on my laptop.

Conclusion: TP9 DOES NOT LIKE THE MySQL Connector-ODBC driver(v5.2.5) (32-bit).

Daan,

Thanks for your feedback, and for your tip about WinPatrol.

Anyway, I think I have a better perspective about what had happened to my file format associations.

When I installed TP9 on my other computer, I had a previous version (TP8) installed as well. I might have also upgraded using the beta versions as they came along.

One of them, whether it was TP8 beta or TP9 beta I didn't know, associated every file type it handled, with itself. Consequently, When I installed the released version of TP9, the same thing happened. As a result, I assumed that TP9 had the same bad behavior.

I just installed TP9 on a new computer build. I checked the file and found that NONE of the file associations I was concerned about, were assigned.

I then checked the other computer and realized that TP9 was using the old file, which when checked, had assigned all of the file associations I was concerned about.

For those who had my problem, here as link that might help restore some of the more traditional file associations:

I'm a happy camper now. :-)

Daan,

Is there a way to install ThumbsPlus 9 without the install wizard associating every file type with it?
That is not the behavior I want.

Thanks for the reply,
Bryan
