Come on Cerious, this just won't do. This SP isn't ready for production release. Why are you ignoring your long suffering and frustrated customers?

Despite God knows how many beta releases of SP1, you still haven't managed to address some fairly basic issues.

1. Turn off display of one user field and they all go; turn it back on and random fields appear. I have reported this for every beta release since user fields were 'fixed' and nothing has been done.

2. Edit a user field and the display does not change unless F5 is pressed. This is a real problem when editing the field the display is sorted on, which is how I usually work.

3. Sort on Numeric Name and Name give exactly the same order i.e. Numeric Name.

There are probably other bugs that haven't been fixed, but a) I don't have time to keep checking them all, and b) I am fed up with typing them up.

None of these are feature requests, they are all things that have worked at some time in the past.

You can't import them into an existing TP9 database, but you can convert a TP7 database into TP9.

This seems to be a bug in TP9 that I haven't noticed before; I only ever sort on numeric names or user fields.

It seems that sorting on 'Name' or 'Numeric name' in TP9 produces exactly the same results; it was correct in TP7.

Have you rebuilt thumbnails? When you change the size, it only applies to new thumbnails.

Right click on any folder, then Remake and choose For Folder, For Tree or For Disc.

According to the release notes:-

"Fixed missing expandable branches in the folder tree on some versions of Windows."

I now have seemingly random branches marked as expandable that don't have sub-folders. Each time I restart TP there are different branches marked, none of which are expandable.

This has been an issue for the past 2 (or is it 3?) releases. I can get the user fields to display, but it requires turning all or some of them on or off in a seemingly random order; eventually they will display, but the order of display seems to be random (e.g. the first user field always used to come first after the file name)

I've never had a problem, until the debacle of 3934. The original link was for a much earlier version (3928) and that removed all my settings and licence info.

The download link has now been fixed, and 3934 *should* install without wiping out licence info. As for settings, there have been changes in the way settings are stored between releases, so perhaps that's why some get wiped out.

This is looking more and more like TP not being compatible with Windows 8.1, even though it worked with 8.0.

Another user has asked a question about the Windows 8.1 compatabilty checker flagging up TP as a problem (see http://forums.cerious.com/forum/index.php?id=3129). It would be interesting to know if anyone else has TP working under Windows 8.1

The only other thing I can think to try is to run TP in compatibility mode.

I don't have Windows 8 (I am waiting for 9 which is due to be released early) so not 100% sure if this method still exists, but try this:-

Right click the TP icon in the start menu and select properties. On the compatibility tab tick the box 'Run this program in compatibility mode for' and choose an earlier version of Windows.

If that doesn't work maybe TP is going to need a patch for Windows 8.1

Sorry, I should remember not to reply to threads before my first coffee; I misread it and thought you were running MySQL!

Have you tried installing the Microsoft Access Database Engine 2010 Redistributable?  (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=13255)

I think you will need to install the x32 version even though your Windows 8 is x64, as TP is a 32 bit application.

Which version of the MySQL ODBC driver are you using, 32 or 64 bit?

As TP is a 32 bit app, it must use the 32 bit ODBC driver even though you may be using the 64 bit version of MySQL.

Also make sure you have this line in my.ini:-

sql-mode = "STRICT_TRANS_TABLES,NO_AUTO_CREATE_USER,NO_ENGINE_SUBSTITUTION,ANSI_QUOTES"

By default ANSI_QUOTES is not included in that setting.

Unfortunately there is no easy way back; I have tried.

The differences in the databases are too great, especially thumbnail image storage.

The td4 format from TP7 uses 3 fields (metric1, metric2 and metric3) to store the thumbnail image, but tpdb8 from TP8 onwards uses only 2 fields, and if you have thumbnails in files they aren't in the database at all. I haven't found a way of converting this.

However when you converted your td4 file to tpdb8 it should have left your td4 file intact, so unless you have done a lot of work, you can just go back to the original file.

Gary, I think the OP is saying that he has TP8 working on an earlier version of Windows, wants to upgrade Windows to 8.1, but the compatibility checker is saying that TP8 won't work on Windows 8.1

He is asking if anyone has tried this BEFORE he goes ahead and upgrades Windows, only to find that he can't use TP8 any more. He can't uninstall Windows 8.1 if TP8 doesn't work.

Sorry I can't help; I'm ignoring Windows 8 and waiting for 9, which is due out in October.

Perhaps you should pin this post, as there isn't anything in the help or on the main site that covers this.

I have had to re-install my PC from scratch, and have lost the Ghostscript and PDF plugins for TP.

There used to be a thread with detailed instructions and download links, but it is missing. The download links on the Ghostscript page are broken.

Does anyone have a backup of that thread, and working links to the relevant downloads?
