ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / ThumbsPlus v9 SP2 3945
« on: 2015-02-06 18:21:53 »
Same here, very disappointed.

Oh well, v10 beta coming soon, report bugs, get ignored, rinse and repeat.

32
This was fixed in ThumbsPlus 9 SP2 beta 3 Build 3943, according to the release notes.

I haven't seen the error on my laptop for some time so I think it really is fixed.

33
In an email I had from Laura Shook, she said that the refreshing of edited user fields will be fixed in the next release, so it could be that the same refresh code will fix this bug as well. We can live in hope!

34
I had an email from Laura Shook a couple of weeks ago, and this is her explanation:-

"Actually this is the way it must work. We had to change our sort with Windows! If you have other characters or other languages you will see the difference in the sorting. Again, this is by design we have to sort with the same criteria as Windows. "

Doesn't make much sense to me as TP7 can sort as expected under Win 7, and I use several other programs that can be configured to sort either way as well.

"TP9 actually scrolls whatever is the active pane."

That isn't quite true, and I think this could be a bug I hadn't spotted before as I don't often use the Preview window.

Click an image in the main window (main window is now active) and hover over the preview window; preview zooms and main window scrolls. In this case the active window is scrolling as well as the window the mouse pointer is over.

Now approach this from the other way round. Click on the preview window and that will zoom without the main window scrolling; move the mouse pointer over the main window (without clicking) and just the main window scrolls with the preview window staying still. In this instance the preview window is active, but the window with the mouse pointer scrolls.

This looks like a bug to me.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TTwo Thumbs.tpdb8 files?
« on: 2014-10-10 17:19:32 »
From your screen shots it looks like ThumbsPlus isn't fully registered with Windows registry because it doesn't recognise which application to open .tpdb8 with.

I had this a few months ago and no matter how many times I set the file type association in Windows it just didn't stick. It was a real problem working with multiple databases as I had to open TP then change the database, rather than just double clicking the .tpdb8 file.

It might be worth a manual uninstall/re-install of ThumbsPlus which is what I resorted to in the end.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TTwo Thumbs.tpdb8 files?

Didn't think about the link possibility, well spotted Gary!

To determine for definite if it is a link, just rename one of them and see if they both change; you can always change it back again. Make sure TP isn't open when you do it though!

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Two Thumbs.tpdb8 files?

This depends on which version of Windows you are running, and how you have it configured.

TP has a default location where it will create a database on first run, or if it can't find the database specified in the Startup section of Preferences. On my system (Win 7) that is C:\Users\Pete\AppData\Roaming\ThumbsPlus\ and my guess is that is the same as your C:\ProgramData\ThumbsPlus

The other location is your data folder and is probably your live database file. Check the file sizes; the default one will be very small as it should only have the 23 sample pictures in it.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TP9SP2 Install error
« on: 2014-09-21 06:14:28 »
Just tried to install and got an error part way through "The account already exists". Clicked OK and the install continued, but ended with 'The installation has failed "Fatal error during installation" Please check your settings and try again.'

If I try and run TP9, I get an ODBC error (5015.8036)

I have done nothing different to the many times I have installed new versions of TP9.

To be honest, I don't really give a damn, but the message from Laura was so positive sounding I thought I would give it one last go, but nope, Cerious are still the same shambolic shower they have ever been.

I gave up on TP9 a while ago and converted all my databases back to TP7 (took me a few days of manually writing and running queries in Access) and I now have a stable system that does everything I need.

I had a similar problem with the newer versions of MySQL, and it is something I never got to the bottom of.

In the end I went back to a much earlier version of MySQL server (pre-Workbench version), got TP working with that and then upgraded MySQL. This worked for me.

I have had many problems with MySQL Workbench, and preferred the older utilities. I still use the old version of MySQL notifier. It sits in the system tray, I can right click and stop and start the server, configure instances and invoke the SQL editor. It is very simple, but it just works.

I have discovered that the PDF plugin does not make thumbnails or open files if there is an accented character (umlaut etc) in the file name.

Applies to both TP7 and TP9. Not sure if the problem is with TP, Ghostscript or the PDF plugin. Any ideas anyone?

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TP10
« on: 2014-07-15 18:17:57 »
Well I knew it was coming, but I didn't expect it quite this soon.

Absolutely disgusted. So you now want us to beta test TP10, and then when it is released (which will be long before it is ready) pay for the privilege?

How about fixing TP9 first? Your 'loyal' customers haven't had a fully working version since 8 was released.

I for one won't be beta testing. I got sick of posting the same errors for TP9 time and time again just to be ignored.

TP7 still works on Win 7, and until I am forced to upgrade to Win 8 I'll stick with that. My TP9 test installation is now getting un-installed.

Have you tried to use SQLite instead of Access?

Database/New and in the file dialogue box change 'Save as type:' to  ThumbsPlus Database (Sqlite3 format tpdb8s).

I am still on Win 7 so can't test it, but it might solve your problem.

44
No you don't have to convert it, .tpdb8 is the correct database for TP8 onwards.

The other format is .td4 for versions of TP up to and including v7.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TP9 SP1 Still Has Problems
« on: 2014-06-12 05:36:53 »
This forum was Cerious preferred method of bug reporting for the betas

[msg]2963[/msg]

Seems they are ignoring their own requests. What worries me is how long will it be before they announce TP10, abandon TP9 and expect us to pay for an upgrade to fix problems that should have been ironed out before the first release, nevermind after a service pack.
