ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Copy and pase crash
« on: 2014-03-29 06:49:19 »
When I select and copy a rectangle in a picture and then paste is into the same picture and after that press ESC to leave the picture hoping to be asked whether I want to save it, the picture editor crashes. I can't remove the picture from the screen (but I still can close the TP main window.

I found that in my setup the NEF pictures are not displayed (seemingly just the embedded small jpgs) I don't know whether they are D70 and D100. It works with TP7. So I suppose I have no Digicam Plugin installed for fP9.

In TP 7 there is a menue "Option->FilePlugins"

here I see:

Digicam 4.1.0.0 (Dec 1, 2009)
PolyImage 2.3.4 (2009)

I don't find this menu in TP9 and I don't know if TP9 uses the same plugins as TP7. At least I did not see that an update was done.

I did not need to re-enter the license info.

No problem here with Nikon D100 an D700 JPGs.

I did not install a new Digicam plugin (but I don't know which version was the latest I installed).

Great that this works for you.

In fact it would be just great if TP would be able to manage image "generations" (i.e. a history of modified and saved images). (such as "subversion" offers for software source code).

General Discussion / Saving Gallery Order is so slow
« on: 2014-02-01 10:16:37 »
Each gallery _can_ be set to "Manual Order". If yes, this order is saved in the database and this (astonishingly) needs quite a lot of time.

If you uncheck "Manual order" in the galleries properties the order is not saved.

Uninstalling TP7 is not a good idea.

Converting the TP7 database is easy using the menu: Database -> advanced -> convert TD4.

Did you move from TP7 to TP9 ?

In that case you would need to convert the existing database to the new format.

Do you usually have Auto-creation of Thumbnails enabled ? (I don't like it, but some do.) With auto-creation on, TP will create thumbnails for all files in the folder that is currently displayed. If it is off you need to select the files you  want thumbnails for and press F3.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / PostgreSQL configuration

It was TP7.

(I do have TP9, as well, but I will (some day) first convert to a C/S database and then to TP9. )

AFAIR;:

I tried to run the script provided by Cerious, but faile due to the said issue.

I installed the plugin.

I successfully ran the script.

After this it did work as expected.

I remember that I once did get TP working on a Postgres database (just for testing)

I needed to install a postgres plugin for handling a certain file type (AFAIK: string).

In any case, you _should_ use the database for managing the files.

TP (7, and AFAIK, 9) does synchronize the "Annotation" in the database and the "Caption" in the files "EXIF" information, so that both include that information.

The even more useful criteria such as "Keyword" and "Gallery" are only stored in the database.

Moving the database from pone PC to another is no real problem. Of course at best you store the database (and picture files) on a network  server, if you intend to use multiple PCs.

This has often been requested since ages (and AFAIK, promised for the after TP7 version).

TP7 (and supposedly modern versions) can bulk-rename to numbered names.
