General Discussion / installing tp5 on windows7 pro 64bit
« on: 2019-02-28 06:23:24 »
i asked this before and as per instructions from  daan i installed tp5  in the C: drive, not C:\program files or C:\program files (86). my source files were setup as instructed to match the td4 established in my former windowsXP

everything is fine on both w7 desktops

i just now tried installing tp5 on a lenovo laptop with windows7 pro and I DID NOT get the option to install on the C as i did on my desktops. instead, the only option for me was to install in program files(86).

WHY? and what should i do

this is the default destination

this is all i get when i want to change the destination to C\

the problems with the td4 and what we've been discussing in regards to migrating over to W7 have not been an issue with my wife's W7

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / btw, re: volume labeling
« on: 2017-10-04 17:20:42 »
do i have to actually change the volume label on the W7  C drive or do i create a "fake" volume label.

ie,,,,W7 looks like this MAIN C (C:),,,XP looks like this DRIVE_C (C:). do i actually have to change MAIN C (C:)  to  DRIVE_C (C),,,

or can i fake it and do this in W7.....

MAIN C (C:)
....DRIVE_C (C:)
........Program Files
............Thumbs5
............Paint Shop Pro 5

i duplicate EXACTLY the path to my source folder,,,NOT "program filesx86", but the same path as in my XP

i install tp5 in a different path than x86,,,, preferably something like c\thumbs5(doesn't really matter)

copy everything to the new structure. in other words, disregard the window7 default and just recreate my XP structure.

after that work in tp5 as usual..

right now, the windows7 computer is my backup and i will rely on my XP until it goes kaplooey. i will test it though to make sure i can manipulate in 7 as i do in XP

okay? :)
btw,,,is this procedure done in all future versions of windows, if it comes to that....even if i upgrade to a newer tp?

so i've been using my XP as my default computer for tp5 - (there are certain reasons i do this)

anyway, so i copied my source folder and td4 to a windows7computer. i had a problem - i wasn't seeing my newest images and the galleries were not the same - all old and unchanged.

so i had to redirect the startup path. one my XP it's "program files\ paint shop pro\images". now on the windows7 computer, to get this right i had to redirect the path to "program files86\paint shop pro\images" and frankly i am bothered by this necessity.

so while all is right at startup, my updated td4 is sill not registering in windows7, ie all old galleries and old data, even though i replaced the td4 in tp5 in the windows7 computer.

i am totally befuddled. how or where does my td4 file get recognized in windows7? it's not happening in program files86\thumbs5!!

thx

that is,,,when i open tp5 it's defaulted to my source folder of all the images.

can i select an image in the source folder and find out what gallery it's been assigned to ?

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / ok...i found them...whew!
« on: 2017-09-27 19:00:21 »
they were buried, lost in the shuffle. i do not know if they were there all this time or not and they got lost in this whole mish mosh.

my question still stands however....can i move a "found file" to a gallery as i normally would? clearly they are there in the source path but i don't see them when i open tp - maybe they're buried or something.

40
it shows up in the "found files" folder.

where can i go from there? can i just move it to a gallery  as normal?  where do i move this found file so'z it'll appear in the resource folder ,,,\images

i will try your suggestion....your suggestion didn't work. i turned off auto thumbnail and checked thumbnail last, with the same problem. i did do a query for both files and both were found in "found files", so i guess i have to proceed from there. btw, my workaround is not working . these lost files are not appearing in my source folder

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / i found a workaround
« on: 2017-09-27 17:54:07 »
...these are jpg's in a folder residing in my image editor in c\program files

...in option\sort by. i have them as date descending and that is all

...by "proceed" i mean following the same steps as normal. my routine is,,,,
     1 - copy 10 images at a time to c\program files\psp\images
2 - open tp5 which defaults to the above path and the td4 database at startup, and the new images are all          there at the top after the scan for me to categorize in my galleries
3 - but these errant images have not been appearing when i open tp5.
4 - so the workaround when this happens is instead of copying 10 images at a time, i started copying ONE image at a time and everything is hunky dorey. fortunately there   are only a few. i have a backup laptop with the same setup, and when i do it there  everything ok. in other words, this i only happening on my main desktop.

it should also be noted that when i do this work aroung the new images are NEAR the beginning but not AT the beginning like they're supposed to be

i have to proceed with these "lost" image  files one at a time, and they appear in their proper place.

however, i'd still like to know what the heck is going on and if it's correctable

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / tp5 not finding new images
« on: 2017-09-27 03:49:27 »
this has happened a couple of times. i copy image files into the source folder and when i opened tp5 they didn't show up, so i cannot organize them in my galleries. this is happening on occasion, but not always. the new images should always be at the top as i arrange them by date/descending.

is there a way to search for them ? like does tp5 have an image search function? i know the file name. maybe i'd have to do it this way for those "lost" images.

or,,,if tp5 simply cannot find them in the startup scan what else can i do to correct this when it happens?

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / font style in tp5
« on: 2017-09-17 23:42:55 »
is the font style in the system folder on the left pane where my galleries are, a product of my computer setttings or can they be set in tp preferences?

thx

i have all my image files named "rsrc.img (xxxx).jpg  currently up to rsrc.img (4027).jpg

currently i have them sorted as primary:date   secondary:date   descending, because i want the latest additions always at the top.  when i change to "numeric name" or "name", although the latest images are still at the top, there's a slight shuffle

why?

what's the difference between, "name", "numeric name", and "date" and what is the necessity for a secondary sort
