ThumbsPlus Suggestions / keyword multi-select
« on: 2014-12-28 21:17:42 »
I'm using TP8, so I don't know if this has been implemented in later versions.

It would be useful if, when adding keywords to image files it were possible to multi-select from the dropdown list, say, using the CTRL key, when the same image needs more than one of the keywords in the database.

This, rather than repeatedly Right Clicking> Keywords> Assign Keywords> and selecting keywords one at a time, rinse and repeat.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Utilizing all processors

Thanks again for your time.  I had already made the adjustments you recommended.  So, I guess this is as good as it will get.  So frustrating to see my PC not even breathing hard though.

I also run BOINC and when I allow it full use of the CPUs, it takes it and goes!  :-)
I wish TP would do likewise.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Utilizing all processors

Just wondering if there's any way to make TP8 use the full potential of my machine.  I have two quad core Xeon processors onboard.  Checking Windows Task Manager, I find that in the most time consuming tasks (Thumbnail making and Similar Image searches), at most, the computer's CPUs are working at 20-25% of capacity.

Is there any way to make TP8 force the computer to work a bit harder?

Also, I've installed a SSD C: drive, and have the TP8 database on the SSD, but see absolutely zero improvement in processing time when seeking similar images.  This was a disappointment to me.

Running Win7Pro, 20GB RAM.  Using tpdb8s presently, but have used other database modes, no difference I can detect.

> The idea (some 21 years ago when TP was first conceived) was that you would use a dedicated external program such as Paintshop to edit your images. Over the years, the viewer has gained many editing features but I guess the wording hasn't changed. And so, 'viewing' and 'viewer' still refer to the internal viewer/editor and 'editing' refers to whatever external program is associated to files of that particular type (in your case, that happens to be WPV which ironically is a viewer rather than an editor).

Thank you.  The development history makes sense of it.  Perhaps it is time for the wording to change.

In any event, I use the TP 'viewer' to do most of my editing.  And now I have the program working the way I want it to, thanks to you.

Even though this solved the problem, I'm kind of fuzzy on why it did.

Logically, setting the default action to edit would not open the WPV, it would open the file within TP for editing.

Can you explain this?

That did it!  Sorry, I tried to find the answer before posting.  But, I couldn't find anything.

Thank you very much!

I don't know what I might have done to bring about this change.

Formerly, and preferably, when I double clicked on a thumbnail in Thumbsplus (7 and 8), the result would be to view the image within ThumbsPlus.   Now, it opens the Windows Photo Viewer.

I can Right Click, and chose 'view' from the dropdown menu for the desired result.  But, obviously just double clicking the thumbnail is preferable.

Any guidance would be appreciated.
