> I like to know if it possible to have multiple databases each having it's own startup folder when opened?

No, that's no longer possible. It worked with v7 because v7 stored the working folder in a database specific configuration file (.tdo) that is no longer used.

You may want to have a look at [link=http://www.zenfolio.com/zf/examples.aspx]Zenfolio[/link], it sounds like that might suit you. I think it costs $30/yr, but that may be well worth it.

Of course, ThumbsPlus can generate webpages too, based on templates that you can edit, but with a solution like Zenfolio (or Flickr, Photobucket, etc) you can use stylish, ready-made layouts and you don't have to worry about hosting your images and pages. You can also use your Zenfolio images and galleries on other sites, e.g. in a Wordpress blog.

> I have about 1,000 pictures I need to crop to photo paper proportion's (4x6) 'by hand'.  Each picture I need to look at one at a time and decide how to crop. (so I can't use the Batch feature)

Never use the slide show for that sort of thing - it uses resized (to screen) copies of your images. The regular viewer (Double-click or Enter) is ideal for this sort of thing.

[*]Use Space and Backspace to move from one image to the next, and back.
[*]Press DEL to delete any duds (enable this first in Options | Viewing | Editing)
[*]Press R to resize an image. You'll probably want to apply Filter | Sharpen | Unsharp Mask afterwards (the next time, you can simply press Ctrl-F to repeat this last used Filter).
[*]Use the Transform | Turn and Transform | Rotate commands to straighten images.
[*]To crop to 4:6, use the corresponding Transform | Trim to Photo Proportions command or Trim to Proportion | 3:2. Just issue that command, draw the selection box and press enter. If the selection box has the wrong orientation for that image (Portrait/Landscape), a right-click inside it will fix that.
[*]Press C to work on contrast, brightness, saturation, gamma, etc.
[*]The Histogra(M) | Stretch option often comes in handy with this sort of work too.
[*]If an effect that you used seems overdone (e.g. saturation or sharpness), use Edit | Fade to soften it to a more agreeable level.
[*]You may also want to read [msg=14]Image Sorting, Culling and Rating at Top Speed[/msg]
[*]As for saving the edited image when you move on to the next..: ThumbsPlus is supposed to do that, but the v9 build 3936 that I'm using has a stupid bug there that causes it to hang once you press Space. Hopefully that was fixed in the current release, but I haven't tried that yet (it works fine in my trusty v7 sp2 fallback version though).[/list]

I hope some of this helps!

    General Discussion / Thanks

Thanks Paul, that's very kind. My family and friends haven't been directly affected but yes, it's a small country and I've heard of several friends-of-friends who were. It's all very sad.

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Ver 7.0-sp2

    > But why would it suddenly start taking 5 minutes to rebuild the list when it was always instantaneous before?

I have no way of knowing what has changed on your system. So again, read those hints and see if any of the possible causes rings a bell. If not, you could experiment e.g. by temporarily moving 5,000 screenshot files to a different folder on the same drive. Then reboot, re-launch TP and see if your (now smaller) screenshot folder loads faster. Or check the database for corruption. Or defragment your harddrive. Maybe you have added a user field to the fields displayed in the thumbnail listing. Maybe you're storing the files on a NAS drive and its cable got damaged.. it could be anything really.

You could also give this a try: http://forums.cerious.com/forum/index.php?mode=entry&id=13

See the hints on this page, in particular nos. 3 and 8: [link=http://www.cerious.com/performance.shtml]http://www.cerious.com/performance.shtml[/link]

ThumbsPlus does not rebuild the thumbnails - it's just reading that humongous directory, matching up the entries to the thumbnail records in its database, and building the thumbnail listing.

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TP10 & TP 7.0 sp1
    « on: 2014-07-16 09:24:09 »
    > It is possible to install on the same Pc with Windows7 the TP10 and TP7.0 SP1

TP10 isn't here yet, but yes, you can simply install TP7 and TP9 to different folders and use both.

    What do you mean?

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / NEF/DNG Support in TP9
    « on: 2014-07-15 01:08:15 »
    > I find the support for DNG files is very limited and Cerious ignores requests for bug fixes.  DNG files created by Adobe Lightroom 5 are displayed incorrectly.

The actual image data in a DNG file is never edited. What Lightroom does (well, can do) is remember the editing steps that you applied and save those (in Adobe's proprietary format) to the metadata section of your DNG file. Only Adobe software can re-apply those edits to make your DNG file look like it was when you finished editing it in Lightroom.

If other, non-Adobe, programs do (seem to) show the edited version, it's because you made Lightroom update the embedded JPG preview that's contained in the DNG file, and those other programs show you that JPG preview instead of the actual raw image (which, again, remains unchanged from the moment that you took the photo, and which is what ThumbsPlus shows you).

Finally, note that the Digicam plugin actually consists of two plug-ins, Digicam (plug_digicam.tpp) and DCRaw (plug_digiraw.tpp), and you can use either to develop raw files. Both also have various configuration options that you can set through Options | Digicam Plug-in and Options | DCRaw Plug-in, respectively.

If I were you, I'd try to uninstall that older version of ThumbsPlus using Microsoft's FixIt utility:

    731
    > Unfortunately, that's not the case. One would think that theumbs9.cnfg would hold your custom workspace data, but it does not. It only contains what's in the Options menu.

Thumbs9.config contains the definitions of the (full) main menu, context menus, toolbars, the panel layout, the status bar, keyboard shortcuts and more.

Thumbs9.ini also holds a few settings pertaining to the interface, such as the skin (Theme) used and the presentation of the thumbnail listing.

What specifically are you trying to change that doesn't seem to be defined in these files?

    > 1 - My build number is the PRO version 3935, however in your archive you don't have a build 3935?  3934 is the latest in it?

    Try ftp://ftp.cerious.com/pub/cerious/thmpls9_3935.exe

    733
Thumbs9.config in the folder that holds your preferences. If you don't know which one that is, see 'preferences path' in Help | System Information.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Slide show transitions
    « on: 2014-07-03 16:47:48 »
Actually Cerious use ready-made code from Leadtools for those transitions, which is why the often requested fades and cross fades can't be added.

    > Anybody have ideas about how to get fades into a TP slideshow?

The only thing that came close was a template for the web page wizard that created javascript-based slideshows - but you'd have to run those in a browser. I think your best bet would be to look for a 3d party solution.

    Hi Peter,

Something seems to have gone wrong with your TIF filetype definition. Please duplicate the following settings (you can keep Irfanview as an editor, but 'category', 'class' and 'Load file using' are important):

Your image loaded without any hiccups here, so I'm hopeful that this will solve it.
