> just curious if other had had the lack of reply from Cerious Support, that I have seen in recent years ?

There have been many such complaints, but there've also been many e-mail delivery problems. When you write to Cerious, it helps if you mention thumbsplus in the title of your message and mention an alternate e-mail address in your message, and (particularly) if you whitelist cerious.com and thumbsplus.com in your email program. Also check the spamfilter for any replies that they may have sent to you but that were automaticaly deleted on your or your provider's side.

> The works for me, but won't for someone who wants to see the .cpt files along with all other.

They'll just have to set up a different opening method for those files in the filetype definitions (right-click on a file of that type and choose Configure Type).

Corel Photopaint files were TIFF-compatible until CPT v6, and you'll probably be able to open those with a "Load Using" value of Internal or Poly Image (or keep the default setting of Equivalent to TIFF). For more recent .cpt files, which are in a proprietary format that nobody but Corel can read, an OLE connection to Corel Photopaint might do the trick.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Sort by similarity
« on: 2014-05-06 11:10:34 »
[*]What filetype(s) are you trying to sort?
[*]Which windows version do you use?
[*]Are the images in a regular local folder? (not gallery or network)
[*]How many thumbnails are (roughly) shown for this folder?
[*]Were all thumbnails made using the same thumbnailing settings (size, sharpening, etc)?
[*]Were the thumbnails produced using this copy of v9, or imported/converted from an older database?
[*]Have you tried recreating the thumbnails in that folder?
[*]Have you tried to first select the image that you're most interested in seeing duplicates of, and then resorting the display?
You can remove or disable .cpt files through that same Filetypes dialog. They're a subtype of TIF in the Images category.

Is "Options | Preferences | Thumbnails | Max File size for MD5 Computation" set high enough to include the files that you want to sort? If not, set it to a high enough value, re-make your thumbnails and try again.

      > Is there a way to recreate "date created" sort order in TP9?

No, 'date created' is not supported by all file systems. ThumbsPlus uses the Date Modified field.

The easiest workaround is probably to turn the automatic creation of thumbnails off (options | Preferences | Thumbnails). That way, your newly unzipped files will appear as big red crosses at the top or bottom of your thumbnail listing (depending on your sort settings) and you can tag them, add them to a gallery, give them a unique keyword or do whatever else that would separate them from the rest, before you make thumbnails of them. You could even use Image | Quick Process | Modify File Info (Ctrl-Shft-Q) to set their file stamps to 'today' and then sort them by date as usual.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TP9 in german language?

I don't think those can be edited.. they seem to be hardcoded in the executable.

      > At that point it asks me which folder to use. I don't know what to tell it because I don't now if this is where the program files will be installed or where the program data will be installed.

      It's the program folder.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / TP9 in german language?

I think most of the interface elements (menus, etc) are defined by the settings in Thumbs9.config. But I have no idea if manually editing those won't introduce any problems, or if your edits will even 'stick'(the program might overwrite them at some point?). Well, you could give it a try if you don't mind the potential waste of time - I'd be curious to know what you find!

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Find Similar... not working

      > Thumbs 2002 cant handle movies using other filters than DirectShow. That has nothing to do with the installed codecs.

Directshow is the part of Windows that requires and uses codecs to play movies. So, to view and thumbnail videos in ThumbsPlus you must either have the right codecs, or you must use something like FFDShow, which you can think of as a 'universal codec'.

      > So I am wondering why TP9 cannot compare the Thumbs of videos.

Well, it seems to work perfectly for me using FFDShow Tryouts. It thumbnails nearly all videos correctly, it finds similar files and sorts by similarity just fine.

General Discussion / View emf files

      > Can I set up a way to view encapsulated metafiles in ThumbsPlus 9?

From what I recall EMF is only partially supported internally - it may work with some simple files, but not with others.

If you happen to have a .flt file (photoshop compatible file loading filter) for EMF files on your system, you could try to use that, or else you may have an OLE-capable program that can read the files. You could also try the PolyImage Pro loading method (all 3 methods can be set up under Load File Using in the file type definition).

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Find Similar... not working

      > The only thing is that Version 2002 is not able to create thumbs from flv, mkv and so on (has something to do with the Direct Show filters I guess).
      >
      > So maybe (hopefully) anyone has also a solution for this?

You can thumbnail those video formats if you install the K-Lite Codec Pack or [link=http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/]FFDShow Tryouts[/link]. You'll also have to add some of those filetypes to the filetype definitions of ThumbsPlus, for instance FLV, MKV and WEBM (and set them as equivalent to MPG, which in turn should have a "load using" setting of "Internal" in its filetype definition).

The find similar function uses thumbnail data to compare the images, so with videos, it is important that you always make thumbnails of the same frame in the video. That way, your thumbnails of similar files will look similar too (I use a setting of 70% myself. You can set this in Options | File Loading | Movie/Sound | Percentage of File Length).

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Dark Theme?

Have a look at: Options | Customize | Colors

From the main window, you can use Image | Quick Process | Modify File Info (Ctrl-Shft-Q) to add a comment to multiple files at once.

I haven't tried this, but copying your old-style JPG comments to the Comment field in the IPTC header of the same file should be possible through the Image | Batch Edit Metadata command. For the first (target) field in that dialog, use Description > Comments and with the From button, select File Info > Comments as the source (I'd try this on a few test images first).

      > Yes it was created using Version 9. I just set the max file size to 2147483647kB.
      > No result... any other idead?

What that MD5 setting does: When a file is larger than the specified size, and you create a thumbnail for it, ThumbsPlus won't calculate and save an .MD5 checksum for it (because that would take too much time and slow down the thumbnailing). This .MD5 checksum is used to see if files are identical.

When you change this setting, as you have, it will only affect future thumbnails. Your current thumbnails of large files still won't have an MD5 value until you re-generate them. Once you have done that, I'd expect the program to find identical files without problems. So, if you still have that test folder with identical images, just select them all and make new thumbnails (Ctrl-A, F3) and see if it works any better.
