Hi Gary,

Thanks for your note.

> Am I testing the situation you are reporting?

Yes. Your message prompted me to do some further tests and it seems that it only happens in a very large folder - one that has over 20,000 files in 3500 subfolders.

I've had a similar problem there that may be related.. when new files are placed in a subfolder, TP9 doesn't always notice, or not until the folder is manually refreshed. Maybe that would be expecting too much though.

Does the database indicator in the status bar work for you? It does for me in a default setup, but not in my 'everyday work' configuration and I can't seem to find out why it doesn't..

TP9/3928 on XP Pro sp3 32b.

When you delete a file, the next file moves into its place and becomes selected. However, the status bar does not show the details of the file that's now selected.

> Are you running the latest build (3928) of ThumbsPlus 9?

Yes.

> I should have said, navigate to C:\Windows\Fonts with "Windows root folder" unchecked. It should still be visible. This was part of the the fix.

Nope, it doesn't here.. When the "Windows root folder" option is unchecked, no entry for C:\Windows appears in the tree (not under C: and not as a separate special folder entry - if such a thing exists). When it is checked, an entry appears under C:.

(This is regardless of whether the "Use Windows 7/Vista tree appearance" is on)

The only way for me (on XP Pro sp3 32b) to see fonts is by having both "Fonts" and "Windows root folder" on in Opt|Pref|D&F, and then browsing to either Fonts or C:\Windows\Fonts in the tree. ThumbsPlus then shows the correct names (DOS-name or internal font name) and sorts them correctly, too.

844
> Otherwise, the system Fonts folder will still display by filename.

Interesting.. if I have "Windows root folder" off, I don't see any files at all in the special Fonts folder.

I'm using Windows XP Pro sp3 32b. Which OS do you have?

To Laura: Could you please report this to Phillip?

> Fonts in the system Font folder display according to their filename rather than their internal name and are sorted accordingly.

Options | Preferences | Thumbnails | Show font names

"When this is selected, ThumbsPlus will scan font files and display the font names. It will display these instead of the file names. Additionally, the font names will be green if the font is installed."

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Grainy Resizing?

> It would be great if TP would provide this algorithm out of the box or as a pluging.

Agreed, Lanczos would be great to have! And an Mspline-like option for upsizing would be great too.

btw, for the OP: it's generally a good idea to run Image | Filter | Select Filter | Sharpen | Unsharp Mask after you've used Resize to make an image smaller. Basically, this will restore the sharpness that was lost in the resizing. Once you have used a filter, you can simply press Ctrl-F to apply the same filter again (on another image).

> There are no previous ThumbsPlus files that can be found on this computer.

I remember having the same problem and I think I solved it by downloading (from http://www.cerious.com/archive.shtml) and running the v8 installer, telling it to remove v8, and then installing v9 again. But knowing myself I probably also edited the registry to remove any seemingly relevant references to ThumbsPlus 8, so I'm not sure what eventually did the trick.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / multiple instances

> As an extra benefit can I have one instance addressing one database and the other instance addressing a 2nd database and drag files between windows? (My DB is reaching its practical limits!)

You can, but that would only copy the image files, not their thumbnails and the other information from their database records.

If you want to split your database in two:

[*]Make copies of your database file and its accompanying *.tdo settings file. Give the new set of .td4/.tdo a distinct first name (e.g. thumbs_2.td4 and thumbs_2.tdo).
[*]Load one database and delete one half of the thumbnails from it.
[*]Run File | Database | Compact to physically remove the deleted thumbnails and free up a ton of space.
[*]Load the other database, delete the other half of the thumbnails from that, and run Compact on it.
[*] Now you have two databases, each containing one half of your images,
    [/list]

(To delete thumbnails without deleting the corresponding image files, select them and press Shift-Del. To select thumbnails from a folder and all of its subfolders, right-click on its name in the tree panel and select 'Show child folders' to make all files visible, and selectable. Or better still, to delete all thumbnails from a drive or folder branch, simply right-click on it in the tree panel and select 'Remove Thumbnails').

    > You can ago to OPTIONS>PREFERENCES>THUMBNAIL VIEW and turn this option to "always" be on. Is this not working for you or are you wanting ThumbsPlus to have different behavior or different options for showing child folders?

Hi Laura, thanks for your replies!

Yes, Child Folders is a setting that I prefer to be Off for most folders - I have only one folder in which I use it regularly. So, I prefer to activate it manually, but it would be nice if the setting would stick while I'm working in that folder.

    > am I able to launch T+7 pro in two adjacent windows without scrambling or jeopardising my database?

Speaking for myself, I've never experienced any problems doing that. Of course I still keep backups of my database just in case.

    > (I did once lose a bunch of video files when trying to move them between folders using T+7- I think all the windows indexing must have got screwed.)

This is the first time I hear of anyone ever losing files to TP7..

In the Resize dialog, set the 'interpolation' option to Downsample or Bi-Cubic. If that doesn't help, are you sure that it's a 24-bit image?

    852
    > However, there is an odd behavior.  I have Options|File Loading|Movie/Sound|Thumbnail options|Percentage of file length checked and set to 25%.  If I select multiple and press F3 or scan folder or scan tree, the generated thumbnail seems to ignore this setting.  If I select an individual video and press F3, a different thumbnail is generated from what the scan generated and it appears to observe this option setting.

That's interesting! So, for you the regular thumbnailing commands produce thumbnails from the wrong part of the movie files, and I get generic icons instead of thumbnails.

My "Percentage of file length" setting was at 76%, but changing it to your value of 25% didn't make a difference.

The way that I make thumbnails for multiple movie files is by selecting them and then pressing INS to tag them. When a non-thumbnailed file is tagged, ThumbsPlus makes a thumbnail for it before adding the tag. So, that is the workaround that I use.. the thumbnails that I get are the same as when I press F3 on a separate file, and the "Percentage of file length" option seems to work correctly.

    ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / moving a folder

First be sure that "Allow folder operations" is On under Options | Preferences | General.

Then, to move a folder, go to the Tree panel and either drag it to its desired location, or right-click on its name, select Move Folder and browse to where you want to have it.

    854
    System: XP Pro sp3, TP9 build 3928

I have several video filetypes (flv, mp4, webm) defined as equivalent to MPG, which in turn is loaded using Internal (i.e. through directshow, which on my system uses [link=http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/]FFDSHOW Tryouts[/link] to decode them). I can thumbnail them just fine on a one-by-one basis and the viewer shows them correctly too.

However, when I select multiple video files and press F3, ThumbsPlus doesn't thumbnail them but instead assigns a generic icon to them (of the videoplayer that these filetypes are associated with in Windows). The same thing happens when I use Thumbnail | Scan Folder or Scan Tree from the menu.

    855
When you use the 'Include Child Folders' option to view not just the contents of the current folder but also those of its subfolders, and you refresh the folder or do something that causes ThumbsPlus to refresh it (e.g. Remove Orphans), then the 'Include Child Folders' option is turned off.

I have a few folders that are so large that 'watch changes in folder' no longer works reliably there. So, I refresh it manually very regularly, and it's a bit of a pain that I have to remember to re-enable 'Include Child Folders' everytime.
