Problems thumbnailing or viewing .psd files

Photoshop, .psd file type support:

There are a couple of reasons why you may not be able to thumbnail and/or view your .psd files.

1. The file type configuration may not be set up correctly. The first attached image illustrates the correct configuration.

2. Maximum Compatibility must be used with .psd files in order for ThumbsPlus to be able to view and thumbnail them. There have been different names for this option in Photoshop. I remember when it was called saving with a "composite image" many years ago.

(.psd files that are not saved with "maximum compatibility" are proprietary and EXTREMELY complicated to try and reverse engineer.)

A. If you don't want to resave all of your .psd files with the compatibility mode, you can configure this file type to "Load using" Poly Image. This will work but it probably won't work perfectly with complicated layered files. However, the thumbnail and view may be sufficient for your needs. Loading .psd files using Poly Image along with the option of putting a Photoshop toolbar button on the ThumbsPlus toolbar may be a great solution for you!

B. You can put a toolbar icon on your ThumbsPlus toolbar for any program. If you put Photoshop on the ThumbsPlus toolbar you can select a thumbnail and then click the program icon on the toolbar to open the image in Photoshop.

Right click the toolbar and go to "customize">"programs". In the second image attached I have illustrated how to put a Photoshop icon on the ThumbsPlus toolbar. (You can do this with any program on your computer!)
