Title: can't display PDF files when double-clicking
Post by: Connie on 2016-06-23 06:51:34
I just loaded SP1(4010).

When I double-click on the Adobe Acrobat icon in my TP thumbnail list, nothing happens.  It won't use Adobe Reader to open the file.  If I display the folder in Explorer, and then double-click on the file name, it opens right up.

I've tried using "Configure File Type" and setting the file equivalent to type PDF (although that seems silly, but I'm grasping) - no joy.

What do I need to do to get PDF files recognized (as they've always been)?

I see no change in the way TP handles PDF files.  Double-click opens the image only.  Shift-double-click opens the PDF file in default PDF program.  Shift-enter also opens the PDF file in the default PDF program.  See if that works for you.

Cheers,

You need to install Ghostscript, instructions in this thread:-

Yes, you need Ghostscript, but don't follow those old instructions about downloading the PDF plug-in, because that's already included with ThumbsPlus v10.

So, just download and install the latest 32-bit Ghostscript from:

Then in TP10, go to the filetype definition for PDF (where you've already been) and set these values:

Finally, in TP10, go to Options | Ghostscript PS/EPS/PDF and set the full path to gsdll32.dll (which is part of Ghostscript that you just installed). For example, "C:\Program Files\gs\gs8.64\bin\gsdll32.dll", but on your system it may well be installed elsewhere. You can also set some other options here.

You should now be able to open PDFs simply with a double-click or .

Daan, thank you SO much! It works just fine now.

I now have 2 DLL subdirectories: gs9.18 and gs9.19 --apparently, I had to install ghostscript for another program a while back.

Will having 2 versions installed cause any problems?

Thanks again.

Glad to hear that you got it working!

No, it shouldn't cause any problems. If it bothers you, you can probably remove 9.19 and point ThumbsPlus to v9.18 instead - I don't think there's much of a difference between these versions in how they interpret PDF files.
