CapSnapper Questions / Capsnapper support for 4K monitors?
« on: 2017-12-08 16:38:00 »
Today I installed my first 4K monitor. I tried to screen capture some software with my trusty CapSnapper, but was dismayed to find that it doesn't accommodate 4K displays. It seems to be limited to 2576*1416.

It would be great if it could be extended to handle these larger displays.

That may be so, but it merely underscores the fact that this aspect of the software under-performs. It's unchanged in many, many years. It ought to work better at default settings, without resorting to multiple steps

ThumbsPlus Suggestions / resize quality

Sirs,

Firstly, I've been a TP using since v4. Love the product, have recommended it countless times.

The single most common thing that I need to do is resize images for use online. I've never been able to use the resize function in TP to accomplish this. It simply doesn't produce acceptable results.

Consider the following example. It's a [link=http://www.mgraves.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/01/Airtop.jpg]product photo[/link] that originates as a 1500 pixel wide JPEG. I need it scaled to 300 pixels wide.

I did this in TP10 and Photoshop CS4, putting the results side by side for comparison. It's been scaled to 200% for display purposes.

It's not clear to me why TP10 doesn't do a good job. If it were able to perform clean scaling it would save me hours of going between TP and PS.

Is there anything that can be done to improve this function?

Many thanks,

Michael Graves

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Grainy Resizing?
« on: 2013-08-06 17:09:53 »
I've always wondered why resizing in Photoshop looks better than resizing in ThumbsPlus, even when both are using bicubic interpolation?

In the bad old days of DOS I used Image Alchemy, which was a command line driven batch file converter that could do a lot of transformations. It allowed the selection of one of a dozen different scaling routines. At the time such was critical because PCs were so slow and memory constrained. IA could RIP a postscript vector file to vast raster dimensions to feed a printer or plotter.
