>You also have problems to migrate them without revising them?
I guess I will, but I did not try yet.

Same situation here.

Seemingly at the moment no means are provided to migrate the TP7 Database ("Access" Format) to the native file-based database used in the recent TP version and which overcomes the 2 GB limit. (Supposedly this is because the next major release of TP will use a faster database format and migrating huge databases makes more sense at that point in time.

For migrating my web-galleries I think I will need to invest some work to revise the templates and creation parameters.

I always use TP galleries as the source for the Web-galleries to manage the content. But I am positive that migrating the database will keep the TP galleries intact.

I tried Lanzcos that in many cases does a good job with resolution reducing, e.g. preventing aliazing with sloped lines better than the algorithms provided by TP, but with this picture it does not help.

ThumbsPlus v10 Questions / Database conversion
« on: 2016-10-23 07:13:26 »
There had been database conversion options coming with TP (v8 or so), but they seem not to be supported any more.

Moreover, I read that the currently used version of SQLite is said to be a lot slower than the "Jet" engine (aka Access database) that you currently use, making TP rather sluggy in certain actions.

Still moreover, here in the Forum there had been discussions of users testing the next SQLite version and confirming it to be **much** faster than the previous one (maybe even faster than Jet and obviously no 2GB Limit). But using this version is not absolutely straight forward and seems to need manual interaction whenever an update of TP is installed.

So I conclude (and hope) that one day soon the next TP version will come with the most recent SQLite engine perfectly integrated out of the box, and will provide appropriate conversion Python scripts as well for tpdb8 files, as for old TP7 td4 files (which I still use) and finally allow (me and many more addicted TP7 users with huge databases ) to convert to a more recent TP version.

I finally created an appropriate Reaper template and manually (I'll do an appropriate program soon) removing the table tags from the index page.

It adopts automatically to portrait and landscape formats and IMHO this looks rather nice in a decent range of resolutions:

Thanks,

Due to requests from our customers, we are forced to provide dynamically shaping websites. Right now several of them will order a new design for the stuff we did for them.

I do suppose that this is something that will hit many more companies that offer such service and if they use TP they are in the same situation as we are.

So its good to hear that you think it can be done by just modifying the templates. I already did modify some templates (slightly) for the aesthetic needs of our customers. But I think the task in question will need an in depth revision - if possible.

Of course it would be very appropriate for TP to come with such kind of templates.

Does the newest version of TP come with the same set of templates as TP7 ?

Is the format of the Templates (definition of the "variables") unchanged ?

I would have assumed that working on templates would be something the new software would do in Python, so it would be not unlikely that something could have changed on that behalf.

Thanks again,
-Michael

With TP7 we excessively use Web Galleries to create content on multiple websites.

Here these Galleries are embedded either in html-frames or in iframes.

Now - as websites need to run on mobile devices ("portrait" and "landscape" layout) - the static layout of the web galleries is not appropriate any more.

Does the new Version of TP allow for creating dynamically shaping web gallery layouts ?

Thanks,
-Michael

In discussions about an unrelated project I was told that with sqlite3 there is an option

'PRAGMA synchronous = OFF;'

That speeds up the performance dramatically.

"The performance improvement thus far is an order of magnitude."

That does sound really good.

I do hope that this will be integrated as default in v11.

That is not "upgrading", though :)

AFAIK there is no tool (yet) to convert a TP7 database in a TP10 database of a type that does not feature the 2GB limit.

Anyway, it would be nice to have the option to select Lanczos (as available in the free IrfanView software) which does a rather good job avoiding alializing  s well with up as with downsampling.

I do know that Cerious are aware of the SQLite performance issue. Maybe that is why they withhold creating a decent conversion tool.

In the other thread you describe that the new SQLite version is a huge improvement. So maybe there is some hope.

You also can (in TP) move the (orphaned) thumbnails from the not exiting files to (equally named) exiting ones.
