Thumbsplus FAQ seriously out of date
« on: 2016-01-25 18:59:15 »
I had a look at the FAQ ([link=http://www.cerious.com/faq.shtml]http://www.cerious.com/faq.shtml[/link]) to see what it said about thumbnailing raw files (neither my Canon CR2 nor Sony ARW files are getting thumbnailed), but I find that the most recent version that gets a mention is TP8 SP1, now almost five years old...

See the release notes for the Digicam plug-in: http://www.cerious.com/digicam_notes.shtml

Digicam and dcraw are already part of the normal TP10 install. Separate download and install isn't needed. I found that the problem was that the install default under Options / Preferences / File Types is to have only "None" ticked, which means that only jpg files appear in the thumbnail view. After I also ticked "Camera" and "Image", the raw files appeared and could be thumbnailed.

Seems a rather strange default choice for the install. I ran an Express install, so all the choices should have been at their default values.

I didn't mean to suggest that. The release notes explain how to assign one of the raw plug-ins to your raw filetypes so they can be thumbnailed, which you said you were having problems with. But it turns out they were just not being shown.

Note that when you tick file types in the File Types dialog, it only adds them to what is called 'selected filetypes', which is what is shown by default in the thumbnail listing. However, you can quickly override that using the funnel button (above the listing) if you want to see all files or just files of one type, e.g. *.CR2. You can also specify a filter in the pulldown box to its right, for instance ".jpg;.tif;.png".
