thanks for the info.  the help file says that the folder can be specified from the command line, but further investigation shows that was cut and pasted from version 8 help.  oh, well.  only two extra clicks.  just a minor annoyance.

mostly i start thumbs10 to the default database.  i would like to create a shortcut that opens another database, and switches drives.  I can create one that starts the correct database, but cannot figure the syntax to also change drives and specify the starting folder.
thanks in advance,
tommyb

i got this to work, but it's painfully slow, especially in a folder with 20,000 files.
it needs to rebuild the file list each time that it goes to a folder.  am i missing something that would speed it up?

specs:
i7 6700
32 gb RAM
Win 7 fully patched
Thumbs 10 service pack 1

It was Options | Preferences | Filetypes: Resolve Windows shortcuts.  I had a shortcut on the desktop to a machine on the network that is usually off.  I had unchecked .lnk files in Options | Preferences | Filetypes so they didn't show, but they must still have been trying to resolve.

Many thanks.

I have issues with both ThumbsPlus 7 and 10.  Whenever I navigate to the desktop, it takes 6-10 seconds to build the file list.  There are only about 6 files on the desktop, and about 10 folders.

I can navigate to other folders with 14,000+ files in them, and more than 100 subfolders, all with 30 to 150 files almost instantly.  It's only the desktop that is slow, and only in Thumbs.  Explorer is instantaneous.

What is it about the Desktop?
