Two ThumbsPlus 10 folders after installing 4002
« on: 2015-07-23 03:49:18 »
Just installed TP10 4002, and I now have TWO folders in Program Files (x86), ThumbsPlus10 (no space) and ThumbsPlus 10 (with a space). Both have the same creation date and time i.e. when I installed 4002. The no space version only has bin and data folders.

Once again fixing one set of problems has created new ones.

No, it is not a new problem. This are the files that could not deleted by the new installer. If you want remove 'ThumbsPlus10' (without space), you must restart Windows in Safemode and delete the folder. You can also use 'Take Ownership' but that command is not Windows standard.

I noticed the same thing.  It appears the installer does not fully take into account the old folder is "ThumbsPlus10" and the new is "ThumbsPlus 10".  Residual files from 4001 remain after the 4002 install.  Also, many "ThumbsPlus10" entries remain in the registry.  I saved the files in "C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\ThumbsPlus" then uninstalled 4002 and all the residual build 4001 files still remain.  I then deleted all residual "ThumbsPlus10" folders/files and registry entries.

I have not reinstalled 4002.  I figured out a thumbnail size/quality that allowed me to create thumbnails for all files using TP7.

Orpaned registry values and files are not harmful. They can be ignored. Only someone who thinks that it does not look nice, you should make the elimination. Practical benefits will not arise.

I never said they are harmful.  The left over ThumbsPlus10 folders/files are not harmful either.  They are, however, indicative of a poorly programmed installer/uninstaller.

Run your findings any further?
Cerious is back on the right path, and that is important for all users.
