Ignore CD-ROM serial numbers option?
« on: 2015-03-26 13:00:45 »
Ignore CD-ROM serial numbers
This option was available in previous versions under
Disks & Folders - Volume Identification and Matching.

I can not find this option in v9.

It is vital to me that serial numbers are NOT ignored as many of my CD-ROMs have the same volume name, and without this option, they are all being catalogued as a single volume.

Actually the problem is worse than I thought!
Not only do I have CDs and DVDs with the same Label - some of them have the same Serial Number.
I did not think that was possible?

Neither can I..

Apparently it is possible, but that implies that with those discs, the "Ignore CD-ROM serial numbers" option would not have helped you either.

Anyway, one would think that if this option was removed, it should have been replaced by a different volume matching algorithm to prevent these problems. Are you actually seeing that ThumbsPlus is cataloging different discs as one volume, or do you only expect it to do so? Unfortunately I have no suitable CDs at hand to try this with.

You are correct - it would not have helped with the discs that had the same serial number.
Yes, Thumbsplus is cataloging different discs as one volume.
If the disc volume name is the same it is doing this.
I have 11 DVDs with the volume name 'Disc' - the default used by CD Burner XP.
Thumbsplus catalogs these as one (very large) volume.

ThumbsPlus 10 has a new Ignore CD/DVD serial numbers option under Options | Preferences | Thumbnails. Hopefully that will help with some of your discs!

I have taken the liberty of setting the "notify by e-mail when there are replies" flag on your last message, so you would see my response above. I'm curious if TP10 does a better job keeping your CD/DVD's apart.
