ThumbsPlus v10 Questions / Database Error /w Keywords
« on: 2016-01-05 21:17:53 »
(NOTE: Moderator, please delete the other post in announcements. Thank you).

OK...finally got all my images cataloged and thumbnailed. So I used the folder names and image names to get most of my INITIAL keywords.

I began to weed out and delete the keywords I didn't want to use and all went well UNTIL I came to two different KEYWORDS. One is called "images" and the other is "photography"...evidently somehow, someway all the images in the database are tagged with these two keywords.

Anyway, when I try to delete...I get the following error message. Obviously I won't ever use either of those two words for searching...so if I can't delete them...no big deal, BUT if I can delete them I will. Below is a screenshot of the error.

Is there a way to actually delete both of these keywords. Thanks.

Wally

Thank you....I'll remember that the next time for SURE. I've already started the new DB...so I'll just go with it. I made some config changes anyway. No harm, no foul...but I'll know if I ever need to do it again.

Thanks,

Wally

Nevermind...I found out myself.

Yes, you do have to re-index your files if you change the path.

Thanks.

ThumbsPlus v10 Questions / Database question

Just curious.

I have my photography files on a separate drive (a second internal drive) in my computer and I have thumbnailed all 700,000+ images. This drive is set up the following way...

DRIVE E:
--1998 Images Folder
     -----Portraits Folder
     -----Sports Folder
     -----Wildlife Folder
     -----Still Life Folder
     -----Weddings Folder
--2015 Images Folder
     -----Portraits Folder
     -----Sports Folder
     -----Wildlife Folder
     -----Still Life Folder
     -----Weddings Folder

Now I want to actually put these in a PARENT folder to look like this...

DRIVE E:
-Photography Folder
  --Images 1998 Folder
         -----Sports Folder
         -----Wildlife Folder
         -----Still Life Folder
         -----Weddings Folder
  --Images 2015 Folder
         -----Sports Folder
         -----Wildlife Folder
         -----Still Life Folder
         -----Weddings Folder

So my ONLY question is ... If move all those folders at one time into the new PARENT FOLDER (Photography Folder)...will I have to make all new thumbnails? Since the path has changed to include the Photography Folder?

Thanks.

Thank you guys for your input. I think after reading your comments, I'll stick just with the keywords. In fact, I have selected the option to include WORDS in FOLDER NAMES for my Keywords and then I can delete those words I don't want to be added by deleting them in the DATABASE then EDIT KEYWORDS.

Thanks.

Thank you Daan.

I'm not a power user (although I am cataloging over 700,000 images). So maybe the question is why didn't Cerious have as a default option, categories? I'm not complaining, just curious.

I've been a license holder since version 5, but in all honesty not used TP much until now. I just retired and thought it is time to DO THIS... I do believe that TP is THE BEST at databasing images (yes, I have tried exactly 8 other programs...TP is the best).

As I begin this cataloging process, I know I will have more questions...probably some stupid ones too.

Thanks.

What is the purpose of User Fields...does it replace categories?
