ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Version 8 SP 1 with Windows 8.1

I emailed tech support as a registered user and never got a response, so I thought I would try here.  Can anyone confirm that Thumbs Version 8 SP 1 will not work in Windows 8.1? I ran the Windows 8.1 upgrade assistant and this was the only program I have that it says is not compatible.  If true, is there any way around it as I use thumbs regularly but really have no need to upgrade as it's much more program than I actually need.  I just have a few small preferences for using Thumbs Plus in my work flo.

Is there any way to download a trial version of the Standard Edition?  I'm currently using Version 6 Pro, but upgrading to a different computer w/ windows 7 and need to upgrade Thumbs also.  I just don't believe I need the Pro Version, I don't need the database stuff, I just love all the other things about TP.
