My observation is it's a Maybe thing. Sometimes ThumbsPlus locks the directory, sometimes it's Windows Explorer, sometimes neither. At least Unlocker will indicate the offending app.

I've been seeing a problem with locked folders for awhile now, I've considered it a Microsoft problem. My home PC's are networked and if I use Machine B Windows Explorer to view a file located on Machine A's external hard drive, the directory often locks and I cannot rename/move/delete the directory. Logically, the lock should remove when Machine B views a different directory or I close Windows Explorer but the directory remains locked. I'm deducing ThumbsPlus is hitting the same OS flaw.

I've XP Pro SP3, suggesting Redmond programmers are sloppy about retroactive work. If you have Vista/Win7/Win8, it means Redmond's development & test standards still suck.

You could try Unlocker: http://www.filehippo.com/download_unlocker/

I used the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility (MSICUU2.exe) to uninstall ThumbsPlus, then successfully installed build 3935.

Yes, tried a full uninstall using Add or Remove Programs after restoring the item to the list. Same error message. Also tried a reinstall/fix of 3928.

3 licenses, I did a repair/reinstall of 3928 on the other 2 PC's, was then able to install 3934. Cannot do on the 3rd PC.

I cannot update to build 3934 because build 3928 will not uninstall; the update process will not remove the old version, nor will Add-Remove programs.

Error "Could not access network location :."

I completely forgot about this, it's a real pain. Thanks for mentioning.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Thumbnail Orientation 3928
« on: 2013-06-22 07:43:31 »
I'm trying to come up with a generic solution for working with orientation.

Rather than tweak TP9 to function like TP7 for a few images... and possibly breaking something else, perhaps provide a way for the user to set an image with the desired orientation and click a "reset EXIF" button to make that orientation normal.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Thumbnail Orientation 3928

I'm guessing based on my experiences and research regarding image orientation: the EXIF tag is given a value to indicate the camera rotation when the picture was taken. See http://www.sno.phy.queensu.ca/~phil/exiftool/TagNames/EXIF.html

I read some apps do not open an image with the desired rotation, either the camera is an old model or the app is not looking at the EXIF tag. You would like to set the EXIF tag to "normal" and save the image to the intended rotation, meaning you mo longer have to depend on an app providing the correct orientation when opening (or TP when displaying the thumbnail).

How does that sound?

P.S. I don't work for Cerious. I'm just a PITA-type analyst.

I don't worry about saving the original date on an edited picture, I can follow back to the original.

As you say, every user is different.

After too many instances of wanting to revert to the original image, I went all OCD. Instead of leaving camera pictures at \my pictures\\, I created a script to do the following:
1) a backup original is saved as e:\camera\\\\
2) a copy to edit is created as e:\pictures\a\\
3) both new files are verified before removing the original under \my pictures.

A benefit in saving the original elsewhere is if the original is still in \my pictures, I'll know I haven't made copies yet.

If I edit or rename , I assign a keyword to the original to indicate there's an edited or renamed version so I won't delete.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / ThumbsPlus v9

I replied to your first post with a problem & workaround I reported (and they deleted). I don't understand their thought process. Sharing that sort of knowledge keeps customers working until the next fix comes out.

Is it my imagination or is this the second time you've posted this? (shaking head in bewilderment)
