Very informative, Daan. Thank you very much. Page 2 turns out to be just a very tiny thumbnail, apparently created by the conversion process by the Nikon software. This discovery means I can freely edit the 16-bit TIFFs without worry of losing anything. Thanks again.

I convert Nikon .NEF files to 16-bit TIFFs using Nikon software View NX2. I would occasionally like to make minor edits in ThumbsPlus, but I get this error message:  "[file name] is a multi-page file containing 2 images; saving with the same name will save only the current image -- other images will be lost." ThumbsPlus then asks if I want to save with another file name, which I never do. When I check file/properties, the saved file is still 16-bit, which is great. But, I would like to know what the error message is trying to tell me about the multi-page file. What am I losing by saving as a single image?  Thanks.

ThumbsPlus v10 Questions / Have to install TP9 before TP10
« on: 2016-01-28 09:35:47 »
That is not my experience. I recently recovered from a hard drive crash, and my rebuild of Windows 7 and ThumbsPlus build 4007 went without a hitch. There might be another, unknown problem preventing the install on your system -- perhaps something in your registry.

I didn't know it's not supposed to be active. I was able to easily add it to my tool bar using the "customize" option, just as I did with version 7. So, you're saying it's just sitting there looking pretty and not working at all (which is something I already know)? It sounds like your alternative method is more work than simply porting out to Photoshop for that function.

Whenever I try to use the redeye removal tool, my mouse cursor completely disappears. At that moment, I have to port out to a different app to fix the red eyes. My cursor option is set up just like it was in version 7 -- default, I think. Anybody know a fix for this?

This is great, Laura. I am now able to do something that I could never do in v7:  I need to enter my file names in metadata so I will always know the original names. My publisher requires me to change file names to a specific format for publishing: 01-001 would be the first photo in Chapter 1, etc. Got it now in v10. Thanks!

General Discussion / TP 10 review

We are kindred spirits, Gary. I cannot live without the "sort by similarity" function, and I haven't found another software that even comes close to working as well as ThumbsPlus.

Thanks again, Daan. You're always a big help.

Great answer, Daan, thanks. I am using Thumbs 7, but also have a license for Thumbs 9. Is there some way I can do this in 7? Failing that, will 7 and 9 play nice together on the same computer?

A couple of folks have written scripts for Adobe Bridge that will enter the filename into a field in IPTC called "Object name." This is very useful to me because I have to change filenames when I send files to my book publisher, and I need a record of the original filename. It would be really handy if I could do it in ThumbsPlus. Does anyone know if this can be done? Thanks

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Sort by similarity
« on: 2014-05-06 15:45:22 »
Thanks, Daan. Creating new thumbnails did the trick. I never had to do that in Thumbs7. I did always click on the thumbnail I wanted to find similar images of. Thanks again...

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Sort by similarity
« on: 2014-05-06 09:29:12 »
I saw that in another thread and then checked it. The number doesn't need to be changed. It's the same (default) number as in Thumbs7 -- but sort by similarity works in Thumbs7 but not in Thumbs9. Sort by similarity is a feature I use repeatedly, and since I feel I can't live without it, I now have versions 9 and 7 working simultaneously, with Thumbs7 used for only that one purpose.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Sort by similarity
« on: 2014-05-04 11:09:35 »
No matter what I do, I cannot get Thumbs9 3935 to sort by similarity. This feature is very important to me. Fortunately, I found that I had an old installation of Thumbs7 still on the hard drive, and I'm using that now for the sort-by-similarity function only. I have searched the forum, and can't find a way to fix this in Thumbs 9. Any help very much appreciated.
