ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Rotating images doesn't work
« on: 2013-08-03 09:32:44 »
Hi David,

I do the following:

- open the image
- select Transform | Turn & Mirror | Turn 90 CW (or Turn 90 CCW)
- save the file

The image is saved rotated.

Hope this helps some.

Cheers,
Gary

After working with Access and external files, I've decided to put up with the performance issues with Sqlite and dump the external file concept for the time being.

185
I am able to add external programs, but cannot delete them.  If I customize the toolbar, select the external program entry (File|Open With...), right click on entry and select delete, the entry is NOT deleted.

I have MS Access installed so I am able to open the database and manually delete the corresponding rows to get rid of the external program entry.

When adding an external program, checking "Pass folder name if no files are selected" does nothing.  The "PassFolder" column remains set to 0.  Manually changing the column value to 1 will then pass the folder name as expected.  I did not test the other two option settings.

186
If I delete an image, the corresponding thumbnail file is deleted as expected.

If I remove the thumbnail for an image, the thumbnail file is NOT deleted.

Scan of a folder with 50 files creates 50 thumbnail files.  Remove all thumbnails and 50 thumbnail files remain.  Scan of the folder again results in 100 thumbnail files.  Delete all 50 files results in 50 thumbnail files remaining.  (Removing orphans does NOT delete the left over thumbnail files.)

Update:  If I use (Shift+Del) on an individual image, the thumbnail file is deleted.  If I select multiple files and use (Shift+Del) the thumbnail files are not deleted.

Laura,

Thanks for this information!  I am in the processing of building the database as you recommended.  So far, the performance seems almost on par with TP7.  Good call.  I'm thinking I will dump the Sqlite3 database.

Kindest regards,
Gary

Alessandro,

Sadly, there is very little you can do to speed up the next/previous.  I have found the best results with the following settings:

Options
  Viewing
    Window tab

      Initial size:  check "Automatic"
Initial position:  check "Upper left" (although I am using Centered now)
Initial Stretching:  check "Fit images to window" and "Maintain aspect ratio"
                           (all others unchecked)

Kindest regards,
Gary

Win7 64-bit and Sqlite3 database.

Had a folder named "Namc YS11".  Shift + F5 to rename in the location tree.  Rename to "NAMC YS11" and bye bye to thumbnails in the folder.  So,  it appears TP9 does not like when you simply change the case of part of the folder name.  UGH.

The above action from the thumbnail list (F2 to rename folder) does not remove the folder thumbnails.  However, the name is not refreshed in the location tree.

Very interesting.  I will try the INS trick.  It is a shame that we have to find "tricks" and "workarounds" to make things "work" in TP9.

Daan,

System:  Win7 64-bit, TP9.3928, FFDSHOW (through K-Lite Codecs)

On my system, all of the issues you define work as expected.  I can select multiple video files (with different extensions), press F3 and the thumbnails are created.  Thumbnails are created by scan folder/scan tree.

However, there is an odd behavior.  I have Options|File Loading|Movie/Sound|Thumbnail options|Percentage of file length checked and set to 25%.  If I select multiple and press F3 or scan folder or scan tree, the generated thumbnail seems to ignore this setting.  If I select an individual video and press F3, a different thumbnail is generated from what the scan generated and it appears to observe this option setting.

Laura,

I am not having trouble *playing* the video - I use the K-Lite Codecs pack for both 32-bit and 64-bit codecs files.  What I am having trouble with is getting the video frame buttons to work.  If the buttons are in the frame, such as MUTE, zoom and full frame, why don't they work?  When the video opens, it is a fixed window size that has no relation to the resolution of the video.  I disagree with you completely - TP7 interface is superior to the current implementation in TP9.

In TP7 I can use the spacebar to advance to the next video and backspace to go to the previous video.  These options do not work in TP9.

Please excuse me if I sound a bit testy, but it is frustrating that TP9 does not even provide all of the functionality of TP7 let alone provide new features of any significance aside from the new sqlite database.

Kind regards,
Gary

Laura,

Thanks for the input.  However, I like the way the simple Tab key works in TP7.  I guess Ctrl+Tab is what we will have to use from now on.

You have suggested customizing keystrokes ... can you give me exact instructions to make Alt+1 sort by name as in TP7?

Kind regards,
Gary

Hi Laura,

Thanks for the input.  While you are mulling this issue, is there anyway to get the TAB key to switch between panes?  I find this so handy in TP7 and so frustrating in TP9.

Cheers,
Gary

Duh.  Thanks Laura.  I never thought to delete file, F5, then rename.  Works like a champ.

Cheers,
Gary
