HA HA on the IOU.  Glad to be of some help.  Upon further thought, it would be easier to type Ctrl+Q to open the Customize window, click on the Programs tab then go from there.  Cheers!

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / ThumbPlus9 SP1 Beta3 Issues
« on: 2014-01-21 08:40:33 »
You've touched on just a fraction of the problems with TP9.  Fingers crossed that the SP1 release will fix them, but my expectation is that many of the issues will remain.

I have no idea if TP8/SP1 works in Win 8.1.  If all you need is a thumbnail image viewer, give "FastStone Image Viewer" a try.  It is a free program (no adware!) and quite good.  Their web site is www.faststone.org (but seems down for maintenance now 21-Jan-2014 at 7:30AM CST).

Otherwise, install TP8 on Win8.1 and see if it works.  If not, you can uninstall it.

Cheers,
Gary

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / I need the older version
« on: 2014-01-21 08:29:32 »
Ugh.  Just found this entry and had already answered your previous post.  *Sigh*

How is TP9 incompatible with Corel Photopaint 7.  How are they supposed to interface?  What is the error?

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / "open with"
« on: 2014-01-21 08:24:44 »
This can be a hair pulling experience, but here goes:

1.  Be sure TP9 SP1Beta3 (build 3933) is installed.
2.  Click menu "Options".  Click "Customize" from drop down menu.  This will open the "Customize" window.  Click the "Programs" tab.
3.  Click the "New..." button to add an external program.  This will open the "External Programs" window.
4.  In "External Programs" window, be sure cursor is in "Program to run:" entry and type C:\Windows\notepad.exe (or click "..." button and browse to notepad.exe).  The notepad icon will then be displayed in the "Icon:" entry.
5.  Move cursor into "Toolbar & tooltip text:" entry and type the description you want.
6.  Click the "OK" button.  The "External Programs" window will close and return control to "Customize" window.  You should see your notepad entry in the "External Programs (Open With):" list.  Click the "Close" button.
7.  Close ThumbsPlus !!!!!
8.  Open ThumbsPlus
9.  Click menu "File" and mouse over "Open with" and you should see your Notepad entry in the drop down list.
10. Now, go to your htm file thumbnail and click it so it is the highlighted thumbnail.  Then click menu "File", mouse over "Open with" then click your Notepad entry and the htm file will open in Notepad.  TA! DA!

For the hair pulling part, you can drag the entry to your toolbar.  This can screw things up, so be careful ...

1.  Click menu "Options".  Click "Customize" from drop down menu.  This will open the "Customize" window.
2.  Now, click menu "File", CLICK "Open with" from drop down list and your external program list will be displayed.  Click and hold on your notepad entry and drag it to the toolbar where you want the entry.  Click "Close" button on "Customize" window.
3.  Close ThumbsPlus !!!!!
4.  Open ThumbsPlus
4.  Now, go to your htm file thumbnail and click it so it is the highlighted thumbnail.  Then click your Notepad toolbar icon and the htm file will open in Notepad.

Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Gary

If I understand your issue correctly:

1.  install SP1 Beta 3 (Build 3933)
2.  click menu "File"
3.  mouse over "Open with", click "Manage Programs..." (this will open "Customize" window)
4.  in "Customize" window, click "Programs" tab
5.  click to select the appropriate entry from the "External Programs (Open With):" list then click "Delete" button (or click "Remove all" button)
6.  click "Close" button to finish

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Next version?
« on: 2013-10-06 14:02:11 »
And we continue to wait.  And wait.  And wait.

I suspect you will never get a response from Cerious.  The chances of this issue being fixed are slim.  There are glaring bugs that have been present since the first release of TP8 02-Jan-2010.  I have submitted several bug reports over the years - not one has received a response and precious few have been fixed.  Sad.

174
Nice write up.  I posted information about this situation on 2013-08-02.  To me this is further evidence that TP9 development testing is, ah, flawed.  And here we sit waiting for ANY of the myriad bugs to be fixed.  And waiting.  And waiting.  Cerious, where are you?

This is a bug.  Please refer to my post for a bit more information:

I have reported the same problem when using Sqlite database.  This feature works with the Access database, but apparently no other databases.

ThumbsPlus v7-v9 Questions / Bulk Rename
« on: 2013-08-10 09:06:43 »
I have not been able to find a way to bulk rename files other than the option that completely replaces the existing name.

I use a free utility, Bulk Rename, which can be downloaded at:

http://www.bulkrenameutility.co.uk/Download.php

I am running Win7 64-bit so I installed both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of the utility.

In TP7 I am able to add Bulk Rename as an external program placing an icon on the toolbar.  In the external setup, I picked the option to pass the folder name.  Passing selected files to Bulk Rename does not seem to work.  Of course the downside is this procedure does not update thumbnails.  So, after Bulk Rename I have to delete orphans and create new thumbnails.  In TP9, I cannot get the external program feature to work with Sqlite database.  So, I use Bulk Rename to rename the appropriate files, then start TP9 and delete orphans/create thumbnails.

Hope this makes some sense.

Gary

Daan,

I have noticed odd behavior in folders with many files - the refresh issue you mention as well as odd behavior trying to right click/move files (sometimes I have to drag a file several times before it is actually moved).

I cannot get the database status indicators to display.  I always have to switch to the tasks tab to determine activity.  Just another frustration.

Cheers,
Gary

Daan,

I tested this situation on TP9 3928/Win7 64-bit and it appears to work correctly.  I copied 4 files to an empty folder to test.  When "A" is deleted, "B" is selected and the status bar shows the details for "B".  Am I testing the situation you are reporting?

Cheers,
Gary
